Die Arbeiterkammer Wien organisiert eine Konferenz, welche sich an junge NachwuchsforscherInnen richtet. Sie findet am 01.10.2019 und 02.10.2019 jeweils von 09:00 Uhr -19:00 Uhr statt. Tagungsort ist die Technisch gewerbliche Abendschule, Hörsaal B 402 in der Plößlgasse 13 in 1040 Wien. Abstracts können noch bis zum 31.5. eingereicht werden. Wir sind uns ziemlich sicher, dass auch geldtheoretische Themen sehr gefragt sind und auch bei der Konferenz Diskussionen um aktuelle Probleme der europäischen Wirtschaftspolitik nicht zu kurz kommen werden. Zudem konnten mit Elisabeth Allgoewer und Heinz Kurz hochrangige hochrangige "keynote speaker" gewonnen werden.

Today’s social, financial, and economic challenges in capitalism call for responses by both policymakers and economists. The multitude of answers economists have to these most pressing questions reflects the plurality of economic theory, differences in the assessment of the present as well as the influence of political interests. Whether an economic theory becomes dominant in shaping society depends on who supports and promotes its ideas. Economic History and the History of Economic Thought are thus indispensable to understand the contest of paradigms.
The recent financial and systemic crisis emphasizes the need for a thorough discussion of the role of economic history for the profession; the impact of ideology and power in shaping economic theory; and empirical studies examining the past as well as preparing for future challenges. This encompasses contributions from all subfields of economics (for example macroeconomics, labor economics and economics of inequality) as well as related social sciences.
The Chamber of Labour Vienna and the Society for Pluralism in Economics Vienna host the Eighth Young Economists Conference on October 1st and 2nd 2019, and invite researchers at the beginning of their career (Master, prae- or post-doc) to attend. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of “Red Vienna”, we particularly invite contributions to a special session on experiences and lessons learned from the history of social policy and public infrastructure. Female contributors and researchers of colour are especially encouraged to present and participate in the conference.

Elisabeth Allgoewer, Professor of Economics at the University of Hamburg, an expert on history of economics.
Heinz D. Kurz, Professor of Economics at the Karl-Franzens-University Graz, specializing in economic theory and history of economic thought.
Deadline for abstracts
The deadline for abstracts (max. 1 page) is the 31st of May, 2019. The workshop language is English. Participants will be notified of acceptance by mid-June. The deadline for the (working) papers is the 1st of September 2019. The conference is free of charge. Presenting participants will be reimbursed for train travel cost within Austria, and may apply for accommodation subsidies. An outstanding contribution will be awarded the Eduard März Prize of €1,000.
